Edmontosaurus is one of the best known ‘duck-billed dinosaurs’. This peaceful plant eater walked on four legs most of the time but could rear up and run on two legs when it was in a hurry. Amazing ‘mummified’ remains of this dinosaur tell us about its skin and soft tissue. It occupied North America during the Cretaceous Period about 66 million years ago.
Scientific Name: Edmontosaurus annectens
Characteristics: Edmontosaurus had a broad duck-like mouth which contained batteries of hundreds of blunt teeth for grinding up plants. Unlike many other duck-billed dinosaurs, it had no crest on its head. It had long strong hind legs and feet with three large toes that ended in hoof-like claws. It had short arms with four-fingered hands, which it also used for walking. It reached massive sizes over 30 feet long.
Size and Color: This model is 5.5 inches long and 3.25 inches high. It has a bold pattern of browns and oranges.
The Edmontosaurus was part of the Wild Safari® Prehistoric World collection.
